Machina Animata
animation for Aalto University Tekstiili16 exhibition, 2016

The “black box” of the exhibition space in Kaapelitehdas.

Machina Animata was created for Tekstiili16-exhibition held at Kaapelitehdas in May 2016. The animation was projected as an architectural piece on the back wall of the main exhibition area. Tekstiili16 showcased the versatile textile and fashion expertise in Aalto University. The visual elements and storytelling of the animation also set the visual identity for the exhibition, from which I was in charge of.
The title of this animation is derived from its Latin meaning, the living machine. In the video a piece of thread continuously reforms itself through stretching and weaving. Crucial part of the projection is the soundscape fabricated based on the musical composition Evolving by Vera Horn.
Special thanks to Teemu Jäppinen, Saku Heinänen, Pixstories and Aalto Media Lab.

Animation’s aesthetics set the visual identity for the exhibition.
