Industrial jacquard-weaving exercises for blankets, 2017

This piece was an exercise in mixing vibrant hues into a soft, warming blanket with merino wool.
During my internship at the Dutch TextielLab in Tilburg, I was assisting the product developers at the weaving department. In addition, I was able to do experiments of my own and push the boundaries of industrial jacquard weaving.
My own goal was to exercise the use of color and mixing hues in a soft blanket quality with fine merino wool. An important part of this was creating my own visual language of vibrant "cat worms", which were generated through code.
TextielLab is an innovative and highly experimental textile center and a museum, where artists and designers are able to develop their ideas through number of textile techniques such as industrial knitting, jacquard weaving, tufting and machine embroidery.

An important personal goal was to create a new visual language through the use of code. Above initial designs for woven blankets.
