Bog hole

Bog hole

Textile sculpture, 2014 + 2021

Bog hole has a heavy multi-weft rib-structure with gloomy eye pattern. The piece can be formed in multiple positions with zippers and elastic bands. The elastic band ends are finished with custom floral pieces and the zipper ends with custom name+title tags. Tags are 3d-printed with glittery filament.

Bog hole is the second piece of textile sculpture series which interpret the forms and shapes of fauna. The first piece can be found here.

Fabrics of the series were originally jacquard-woven in 2014 when I was doing design studies at Rhode Island School of Design. Pieces have been re-purposed in 2021 as a creature-like sculptures which borrow details and functionality from sportswear.

Bog hole, in finnish Suonsilmä, found its inspiration during a visit in a Louisiana bayou-area where alligators and floating foliage created an eery swamp atmosphere. The sculpture has elastic bands with custom-made 3d-printed ends and sturdy zippers. The piece can be tighten or zipped to form varying shaped creatures.

The sculptures were presented at BLOOM 2021 group exhibition at Lokal gallery, Helsinki in May 2021.

BLOOM is Lokal’s biannual youth exhibition, featuring the works of artists and designers under the age of 30. As the fifth exhibition of it’s kind, Bloom has become an established portal for young blossoming creatives to showcase their pieces in a curated context.” - Lokal gallery
